Hampyeong County in Jeollanam-do announced on the 11th that it was selected as an outstanding local government at the ‘Democratic Party of Korea Local Autonomy Awards’ ceremony in recognition of its contributions to agricultural distribution innovation and revitalization of the local economy.
The ‘Democratic Party of Korea Local Autonomy Awards’ was hosted by the Democratic Party of Korea (Democratic Research Institute) and organized by the Korea Policy Management Institute to commemorate the 30th anniversary of local autonomy.
At the awards ceremony, institutions that demonstrated outstanding administrative capabilities and achieved results in eight major policy areas?including revitalizing the local economy, responding to population decline, climate crisis response, and autonomous administration?were selected and awarded. Best practices were shared to strengthen cooperation between local governments and promote policy innovation.
The county received the Excellence Award in the local economy revitalization category at the ceremony. The county was highly praised for achieving remarkable results by innovating the entire production and distribution system in the agricultural industry, which is its main sector.
The county has steadily implemented the ‘Hampyeong-style Food Plan’ to establish a stable agricultural production system, and formed the ‘K-HC Hampyeong Food Export Expansion Task Force’ to expand overseas markets for local agricultural specialty products. Based on these efforts, last year the county signed export contracts worth $1 million with three countries: France, Indonesia, and France.
In addition, a live commerce media studio for young creators was established at the Hampyeong Agricultural Technology Center, creating a public-private cooperative online sales platform for agricultural specialty products. Through this, young farmers have been supported in promoting, distributing, and selling their own agricultural specialty products online.
As a result, Hampyeong County has won awards for two consecutive years in the youth live commerce category at the ‘National Farmers Smart Management Innovation Contest,’ and both online and offline sales of agricultural specialty products have shown an increasing trend for the past three years.
County Governor Lee Sangik said, “It is an honor for Hampyeong County to participate in a ceremony that fairly evaluates and recognizes the policy capabilities of local governments on the 30th anniversary of local autonomy,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to become a model local government that leads policy innovation and change across all administrative fields.”
