Gangdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 11th that it held a signing ceremony for the ‘The Best Gangdong Education Belt’ project at the Gangdong-gu Office auditorium the day before, aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of local high schools and strengthening support for excellent curricula in preparation for the full implementation of the high school credit system in 2025.

‘The Best Gangdong Education Belt’ is a project to establish a specialized education support system unique to Gangdong-gu in response to changes in the educational environment brought about by the introduction of the high school credit system. In particular, it focuses on innovatively developing local high schools by strengthening school-specific specialized curricula, which are important in university admissions evaluations, and on establishing Gangdong-gu as a future education city.

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from a total of nine institutions, including Gangdong-gu, Gangdong-Songpa Office of Education, the Admissions Office of Konkuk University, the Admissions Office of Gyeongsang National University, the Institute of Philosophical Thought at Seoul National University, the Admissions and Public Relations Office of CHA University, and three local high schools selected through this year’s public contest (Gwangmun High School, Sangil Girls’ High School, Seonsa High School).

To promote this project, the district directly surveyed the educational environments of four nationally outstanding high schools last year and reflected the opinions of the educational field by conducting special lectures and consulting for teachers at five local high schools.

Accordingly, from March, 18 specialized curricula linked with each partner university will be fully operated at the three selected high schools this year. Students will be able to develop necessary competencies through various classes such as media content development using generative AI, humanities and sports fusion courses, and information subject-linked robot camps.

The district plans to actively support the project by investing district finances and simultaneously implement the ‘Gangdong Education Belt General School Support Project’ for all local high schools to enhance the competitiveness of each school.

Mayor Lee Soo-hee said, “At a time when the school-age population is declining, regional educational competitiveness is becoming more important,” and added, “We expect this project led by Gangdong-gu to become a growth engine that leads the development of regional education.”
