Gyeonggi Province is promoting a cadastral readjustment project for 16,000 land parcels across 30 cities and counties and 75 project districts this year to resolve discrepancies between the registered land locations and their actual locations.
The cadastral readjustment project is a national initiative fully funded by the central government from 2012 to 2030 to resolve cadastral discrepancies where the registered details in the cadastral records do not match the actual conditions. The cadastral records (Jijeok Gongbu) refer to registers and maps such as land registers and forest registers that record the surveyed land boundaries and ownership information.
In September last year, Gyeonggi Province conducted a proactive preliminary verification considering project priorities and urgency to support cities and counties in starting the cadastral readjustment projects early this year. Additionally, the province collaborated on various development projects such as cadastral readjustment, village road construction, and road opening works to resolve boundary disputes and utilize the results for compensation tasks.
This year’s cadastral readjustment project districts will establish new boundaries through land status surveys and single-lot measurements. Boundaries will be decided after collecting landowners’ opinions, and if there are no objections to the boundary decisions, the boundaries will be finalized.
The cadastral readjustment project allows for accurate knowledge of land locations and boundaries, and since it can adjust lands that are inaccessible by transportation means, such as blind land (maengji), to match actual boundaries, it has the effect of increasing the land’s utilization value.
Kim Yong-jae, Director of the Land Information Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We will do our best to protect residents’ property rights by actively promoting the cadastral readjustment project in 2025 as well to resolve boundary disputes and other issues related to cadastral discrepancies."
