Kim Dong-yeon Meets Foreign Investors, Says "When the Fog Clears, South Korea's Economic Potential Will Fully Emerge"

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon met with foreign-invested companies on the 10th and encouraged active investment expansion, saying, "When the fog of economic uncertainty in the Republic of Korea clears, the economy's potential and resilience will demonstrate their true strength."

At the ‘Investment Attraction Roundtable’ held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office that day, nine foreign-invested companies attended, including Shinsegae Simon, Shinsegae Property, ESR Kendall Square, Skywix Solutions, Acretech Korea Co., Ltd., MTear Co., Ltd., Intercos Korea, Korea Road, and Korea Fujifilm Electronic Materials Co., Ltd.

The companies attending this roundtable include six planning a total investment of 246.2 billion KRW in Gyeonggi Province and three currently implementing investments.

Governor Kim mentioned the business card he gave to the attending businesspeople, saying, "On my card, it is written in English ‘Trust in Korea.’ This was printed from what I wrote by hand when I met global political and economic leaders at the Davos Forum last January." He added, "Going to Davos, I thought of myself as a national representative of the Korean economy, and my main purpose was to inform world leaders about the confidence in the Korean economy, its potential, and resilience."

He continued, "During the New Year press conference, I spoke about Korea’s emergency management system, caring for people’s livelihoods, and bold investments for future growth. I proposed various measures such as preparing supplementary budgets by the government, creating export safety nets to respond to the second Trump administration and rapidly changing international situations." He said, "I will continue to urge the central government on these matters, and in the process, Gyeonggi Province will support companies and implement various measures to boost their morale without any setbacks."

He added, "Now is the time for the government, public sector, and companies to work together for the future of our economy, to revitalize the economy and create many jobs. Gyeonggi Province will do its best to support investments and provide seamless assistance in all areas we can help with," promising full support.

Governor Kim emphasized, "The Korean economy is shrouded in a lot of fog. Due to martial law and internal strife caused by the current president, economic uncertainty is thick, but I believe that once this fog clears, Korea’s economic potential and resilience will show their true power." He added, "Please join us in building a proper Korea and rebuilding the economy. I hope all your active plans go as intended. If there is anything you request from Gyeonggi Province, I will listen carefully and work together to resolve it."

Since taking office, Governor Kim has demonstrated his capabilities as a money-making governor and economic expert in Gyeonggi Province, the economic heart and central axis of Korea. He achieved investment attraction of 73.361 trillion KRW during the 8th local government term, contributing to regional economic development and growth of advanced industries, and has supported stable business activities through continuous networking with businesspeople.

Following the national crisis including the emergency martial law on December 3 and impeachment, Gyeonggi Province established the Gyeonggi Emergency Livelihood Economy Council and has been striving for economic recovery measures based on the three principles of ‘field-centered, rapid response, and bold action.’

Governor Kim first visited the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) and the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) on January 8 to request active corporate activities and investments in Korea. He was also the only Korean politician to participate in the Davos Forum, where he shouted ‘Trust in Korea!’ to world leaders and entrepreneurs, focusing on promoting Korea’s economic potential and resilience.
