Regarding China's 'Sun Long Controversial Remarks'... Seokyungdeok Says "Reflect Before Blaming Others"

"Chinese Athletes Should Develop Sportsmanship," Professor Seo Criticizes

Controversy erupted after reports surfaced that Sun Long, a member of the Chinese men's team accused of 'pushing a teammate' during the short track events at the 2025 Harbin Winter Asian Games, made offensive remarks toward the Korean team.

In response, Professor Seo Kyung-deok of Sungshin Women's University sharply stated, "Before blaming others, one must first reflect on their own actions."

On the 10th, Professor Seo wrote on his Facebook account, "According to the Chinese sports media 'Sina Sports' on the 9th, after the men's 5000m relay short track final, Sun Long left the mixed zone shouting, 'Disgusting! Just disgusting!'"

According to the media, Sun Long said, "Regarding the judgment, I did not hit him (Park Ji-won)." He added, "Why is this considered my foul? If fair judgment is not made, the fun of short track disappears."

The media also reported, "The Korean team committed malicious fouls against the Chinese team in two short track events (which caused Sun Long's backlash)," and added, "The 1000m final judgment was naturally unsatisfactory to Sun Long. In a post-match interview, Sun Long criticized, 'The Korean team always has parts that are hard to understand.'"

Professor Seo criticized, "Chinese short track athletes need to develop basic sportsmanship more," and added, "Chinese media such as Sina Sports should provide more objective reporting instead of flooding the public with provocative articles that incite anti-Korean sentiment."

Sun Long participated in the men's short track events at this Winter Asian Games, competing in the 1000m final and the 5000m relay final. During the 1000m final, he fell alone after contact with Korean team member Park Ji-won, who was aiming for the inside lane. The referees reviewed the incident via video replay and judged that the Korean athlete was not at fault, thus no penalty was given. Ultimately, the gold and silver medals went to Korean team members Jang Sung-woo and Park Ji-won, respectively.

In the 5000m relay final, there was also a collision between Korean and Chinese athletes. When the last Korean runner Park Ji-won surged to the front, Lin Xiaojun attempted to overtake, leading to a physical struggle. During this, Lin Xiaojun slipped after being caught by a Kazakhstani athlete chasing from behind, and the race ended with Korea in second place and China in fourth.

The referees judged that Park Ji-won committed a foul during the physical altercation with Lin Xiaojun and disqualified the Korean team. Consequently, China moved up to third place and won the bronze medal.

Ironically, Sun Long himself is suspected of having pushed Lin Xiaojun during this tournament. On the 8th, during the men's short track 500m race, Sun Long pushed Lin Xiaojun from behind while Lin was competing for the lead, which increased Lin's speed and allowed him to cross the finish line first ahead of Park Ji-won. However, the referees judged that there was no foul, and Lin Xiaojun ultimately won the gold medal.
