KIST Holds 59th Anniversary Opening Ceremony

The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST, President Oh Sang-rok) announced on the 10th that it held its 59th anniversary ceremony at the Johnson Auditorium in its Seoul headquarters.


At the ceremony, individuals who contributed to the advancement of science and technology in various fields were awarded. Among the 'KIST Awards of the Month,' the 'KIST Grand Prize,' given to the most outstanding researcher, was awarded to Dr. Nam Seok-woo and Dr. Lee So-young of the Clean Hydrogen Convergence Research Center in recognition of their achievement in developing a new fuel cell core technology with the world's best electrochemical performance and durability.


The Songgok Science and Technology Award, operated with a donation fund from the late first director Choi Hyung-seop, was awarded to Professor Noh Yong-young of Pohang University of Science and Technology for his contribution to the development of 'p-type oxide semiconductors.'


The KIST Global Partnership Award, given for contributions to international cooperation in science and technology with KIST, was presented to Istvan SZERDAHELYI, the Ambassador of Hungary to Korea.


In his commemorative speech, President Oh Sang-rok stated, "Since its establishment, KIST has laid the foundation for the development of science and technology in the Republic of Korea, growing through numerous innovations and challenges to create new trends. Now, facing unprecedented rapid changes and challenges, science and technology are the key means to overcome crises, and KIST, as a leader in Korea's science and technology community, must lead the rise, takeoff, and hopeful transformation at the center."
