The national veterans support project jointly promoted by Taean County in South Chungcheong Province and Korea Western Power is successfully taking root, receiving positive responses from beneficiaries and praise from the local community.
Taean County announced on the 10th that since signing a support agreement with Korea Western Power in July 2023, a total of 150 million won has been provided to national veterans residing in the county as of last year.
The main focus of the national veterans support project is to improve the living environment for veterans in difficult circumstances and to provide side dishes and snacks to those with insufficient nutritional intake.
This initiative aims to promote the honorable lives and welfare of national veterans and to establish a customized welfare model. Taean County and Korea Western Power shared the need to enhance veterans' welfare and signed the “Taean County-Korea Western Power Business Agreement for Supporting National Veterans in Taean County” at the Taean County Veterans Hall in July 2023.
Since then, Taean County has been identifying and recommending eligible veterans, while Korea Western Power has been establishing and implementing support plans. Special attention has been given to providing essential support such as snack coupons (8,000 won per person) for those receiving treatment at Daejeon Veterans Hospital, home repairs, and side dish assistance.
Kim Gwangsik, President of the Taean County Veterans Association, said, “Since July 2023, veterans have been receiving snack coupons when going to Daejeon Veterans Hospital for treatment, making hospital visits as enjoyable as going on a picnic every month. I am grateful that the support from Taean County and Korea Western Power seems to be improving the health of the beneficiaries.”
The county plans to continue close cooperation with Korea Western Power, and at the same time, will steadily pursue efforts at the county level for the stability of national veterans, such as the “Finding Military Merit Medals” campaign with the Ministry of National Defense and the provision of honor allowances for war veterans.
A county official stated, “The national veterans support project is part of our efforts to ensure that the sacrifices and dedication made for the country are met with the highest respect and honor. Through enhanced recognition of veterans, we will continue to do our best together with related organizations such as Korea Western Power to unite the hearts of our citizens.”
