Disaster Safety Accident Insurance Claims Process Accelerated... From 4 Months to 20 Days

Guidelines Established for Simplifying Insurance Claim Documents

The government is simplifying the documents required for disaster safety accident insurance claims, improving the process so that insurance applications, which previously took about four months, can now be completed within 20 days.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 10th that through consultations with related agencies following the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster on December 29 last year, documents that victims had to submit to mutual aid and insurance companies for insurance claims have been replaced with official letters, reducing the average insurance application period from 144 days to 18 days.

Among the common documents, 'Resident registration certificate or abstract based on the accident victim,' 'Death certificate' for the deceased, and 'Mutual aid association payment statement' can now be omitted.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to establish guidelines to simplify the documents required for insurance claims related to human casualties in future disaster safety accidents.

Jo Deok-jin, Director of the Disaster Recovery Support Bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, "We will continue to improve related systems so that citizens affected by disaster safety accidents do not face difficulties in receiving insurance payments."
