Six Mobile Repair Teams Formed for 24-Hour Response
Restoration of 18 Routes Including Sangmudaero and High-Frequency Areas
Gwangju City announced on the 10th that it will proactively carry out maintenance on road potholes that have been occurring simultaneously across the city following heavy snowfall.
Potholes are road surface damages where the surface caves in, creating a hole shaped like a pot, which can cause vehicle damage or lead to traffic accidents.
Recently, complaints about potholes have become frequent due to increased snowfall and the use of de-icing agents. The number of pothole cases over the past three years has been 10,429 in 2022, 23,448 in 2023, and 33,822 in 2024, showing a steady increase each year.
To address potholes after the heavy snowfall, the city has organized six 'mobile repair teams' with 18 members, operating 24 hours a day without distinction between day and night until the end of this month.
Potholes can be reported through the Gwangju City Bitgoeul Call Center, the Road Management Team of the General Construction Headquarters, or via the 'Safety Sinmungo App.'
By the first half of this year, the city plans to quickly repair and repave 18 routes including Sangmudaero and other areas with frequent small potholes throughout the entire road network.
Shin Jaeuk, head of the General Construction Headquarters, said, "To ensure citizen safety and minimize inconvenience for road users, we will operate the 24-hour mobile pothole repair team and promptly carry out restoration work within the first half of the year to focus on managing road potholes."
