Hwaseong Jebudo Coastal Road to Widen... Gyeonggi-do Invests 5.2 Billion Won

Gyeonggi Province is investing a total of 5.2 billion KRW to expand the coastal road network in Hwaseong Jejubdo to promote marine tourism and activate Jebu Marina.

The project involves widening the coastal road and securing sidewalks for pedestrian safety along approximately a 1km section from the entrance of Jejubdo, passing through Jebu Marina, to Jebu Port.

Jejubdo is a representative tourist destination visited by more than 2 million tourists annually, but the coastal road passing through Jebu Marina was narrow, causing safety issues for pedestrians. In response, Gyeonggi Province has continuously requested national funding support from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to resolve the narrow access road and pedestrian safety problems. As a result, a total budget of 5.2 billion KRW was secured through the island development support project, enabling the project to proceed.

Once the project is completed next year, it is expected to greatly contribute to the safe movement of tourists and residents visiting Jejubdo and to the revitalization of local tourism.

Gyeonggi Province is also separately promoting a park development project covering an area of 10,000㎡ within Jejubdo. With a total budget of 7.6 billion KRW, this park will be designed as a space where visitors can enjoy the beautiful West Sea through rest areas, recreational facilities, and forest creation. The park development is currently in the detailed design phase following a design competition in 2024, with construction starting this year and scheduled for completion in 2026.

Park Jong-min, Director of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Life Sciences Bureau, stated, "The opening of the Jebu Marina coastal road will resolve the inconvenience and safety issues for residents and tourists," adding, "Going forward, the province plans to continue support projects that improve island living conditions and specialize marine tourism resources."
