Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province is promoting the construction of a complex convention center in the Dongtan Station area.
Hwaseong City announced that it is discussing the construction of a convention center with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), the project operator, on a 45,000㎡ site in the central commercial area of Dongtan 2 New City.
The city plans to attract private capital to create a complex space equipped not only with exhibition and conference facilities but also with entertainment, accommodation, and shopping facilities, making it a regional landmark.
The site under consideration in the central commercial facility area of Dongtan 2 New City is right next to Dongtan Station, which integrates SRT and GTX-A lines. The city believes the location has sufficient economic feasibility due to excellent access to railroads and highways, as well as the presence or planned development of advanced industrial facilities such as Samsung Electronics' semiconductor factory.
The city emphasized that one of the reasons for the need to build the convention center is that the number of companies in the jurisdiction reaches about 27,000, the highest among basic local governments nationwide.
The city added that since the construction of the convention center requires consultation with LH, and LH must oversee land sales and project bidding, the scale of the convention center and construction schedule have not yet been finalized.
A city official said, "Once the convention center is established, it will become a landmark not only for Dongtan New City but also for the entire city," adding, "We will actively and promptly consult with LH and make every effort to realize the construction of the convention center within a short period."
