Daegu City Council member Kim Jeong-ok (People Power Party, proportional representation) announced on the 7th that she urged the establishment of cold wave response policies centered on policy users, such as inspecting the support status for vulnerable groups to cold waves like the homeless and expanding the operating hours of cold wave shelters and emergency evacuation centers through a written administrative inquiry.
Council member Kim Jeong-ok stated, “Recently, there was an incident where a homeless person in their 60s died from the cold wave at Daegu Station Square,” and added, “This should be regarded as a critical issue sounding an alarm for the safety system of our entire region.”
Kim Jeong-ok inquired about the operation status of cold wave shelters and emergency evacuation centers, asserting, “The operating hours of these cold wave facilities should be extended, and for those who cannot use them due to accessibility issues, a demand-responsive transport system (DRT) should be utilized in emergencies to prevent unexpected accidents caused by severe cold.”
She also emphasized, “Through a dedicated field team in winter, cold protection supplies should be provided to vulnerable groups to cold waves, and necessary supplies and clothing should also be supported for public officials who undertake heavy duties such as night patrols.”
