Arrest Warrant Requested but Dismissed
A man who installed a voice recorder in a neighboring house in a villa in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, was arrested by the police.
The Gwanak Police Station in Seoul announced on the 7th that they had urgently arrested a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of trespassing and violating the Communications Privacy Protection Act.
According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of installing voice recorders in four neighboring units of the villa where he lives since December of last year.
Police investigations revealed that Mr. A installed cameras around the neighbors' front doors to identify the door lock passwords, and entered the homes when no one was present to install the voice recorders.
At around midnight on the 4th, police responded to a report from a victim and discovered multiple voice recorders in the four neighboring units, which were collected as evidence. The recorded files reportedly contained everyday conversations as well as sexual content.
A police official stated, "It appears the crime was committed for sexual purposes," adding, "We are continuing to investigate the exact motive and the time the crime began."
