Various Folk Events Including Daljip Burning Held Throughout the City
Wishing Away Misfortune and Worries
Various Jeongwol Daeboreum events praying for the start of the year and safety are abundantly held throughout Yeongju City, Gyeongbuk.
According to the city, on the 12th, Jeongwol Daeboreum day, diverse traditional events such as △Sunheung Choguncheong Folk Culture Festival (Sunheung Seonbi Village) △Museom Village Jeongwol Daeboreum Daljip Burning (Musumyeon Sudori) △Sobaeksan Teotgoeul Seasonal Customs Festival (Punggi-eup Namwoncheon) will take place.

First, the Sunheung Choguncheong Folk Culture Festival Promotion Committee (Co-Chairmen Im Byeong-il and Han Jin-gyu) will hold the ‘Sunheung Choguncheong Folk Culture Festival,’ a folk event to inherit the legitimacy of the farmer’s autonomous organization Sunheung Choguncheong with over 100 years of history and to preserve traditional culture, at the Seonbi Village square.
Starting with a street parade and Nongak performance, the Jeongwol Daeboreum events continue with △Reenactment of Sunheung Dohobu Governor’s Procession △Seongha and Seongbuk Tug-of-War △Daljip Burning. In addition, various side events such as rice cake pounding, calligraphy exhibition and performance, traditional crafts, natural dyeing experience, and village competition Yutnori will be added to provide rich and abundant entertainment.
The Museom Village Preservation Society (President Park Cheon-se) will hold the Jeongwol Daeboreum Daljip Burning event at the white sand beach of Museom Village in Sudori, Musumyeon. Traditional folk games such as a ritual ceremony, Jwibulnori (fire play), and pungmul (traditional percussion music) will be held, along with food sharing events like fish cake and steamed rice cake distribution and roasted sweet potato eating. At the time the moon rises, a daljip made of straw and pine branches will be burned to pray for everyone’s safety.
The Wolwoohoe, a group that loves the moon and friends (President Hwang Chang-ho), will hold the Sobaeksan Teotgoeul Seasonal Customs Festival by the Namwoncheon River in Punggi-eup. Residents and tourists gather to burn wish papers written with their hopes for the year along with the daljip, reflecting on the meaning of the traditional holiday. Various stages including folk games like Tuho and Jegichagi, belly dance, and folk song performances will also be prepared to provide abundant attractions for citizens and visitors.
Mayor Park Nam-seo said, “I hope this warm time of enjoying various Jeongwol Daeboreum events together and praying for each other’s health and happiness will be meaningful,” adding, “I wish that by burning away all the past misfortunes with the daljip, the year 2025, the Year of Eulsa, will be a year filled with bright smiles on everyone’s faces like the bright and round full moon.”
