Promoting a Frugal Wedding Culture
Easing the Burden for Prospective Couples
Starting this year, 20 couples holding a "small wedding" in Busan will receive support of up to 1 million KRW.
Busan City (Mayor Park Hyung-jun) announced that from the 6th to the 28th, it will recruit 20 prospective couples to participate in the "Public Wedding Hall Small Wedding Support Project."
This project is being launched for the first time this year to promote a frugal and reasonable wedding culture and to reduce the financial burden of wedding expenses for couples preparing to marry.
Prospective couples holding their wedding at public wedding halls in the Busan area will receive reimbursement support of up to 1 million KRW for ceremony expenses such as decoration costs, venue rental fees, photography, and events.
Anyone with at least one person registered as a resident of Busan City can apply, and applications can be submitted after reserving a wedding hall.
Detailed information about the wedding halls and reservation procedures can be found in the public wedding hall menu on the city’s website. After consulting with the manager of each wedding hall, reservations can be made. Applications for project support can be submitted through the Bojogeum24 website or via email.
Recipients will be selected by lottery, and within one month after the wedding, they must submit supporting documents to claim the wedding expenses. After verification, support of up to 1 million KRW will be provided. Detailed information about the project can be found in the city’s website notices.
There are 12 public wedding halls currently open in the Busan area, including Chungnyeolsa Outdoor Yard (traditional wedding), Seo-gu Office Multipurpose Hall, and Nam-gu Peace Park. The city plans to continuously discover and open public facilities such as government buildings and parks that can be used as wedding halls. The number of public wedding halls will also be adjusted based on operational performance.
Park Seol-yeon, Director of the Women and Family Bureau of Busan City, said, “We launched this support project to ease the difficulties faced by couples preparing for marriage,” and added, “We hope many prospective couples will show interest and apply so that a frugal and reasonable wedding culture can take root.”
