Kwon Young-se Discusses Party Approval Ratings and Reform
Addresses Criticism, Emphasizes Sincerity in Party Direction
Expresses Concerns Over Constitutional Court's Fairness in Impeachment Trial
Promises Support for Jeju Air Disaster Victims' Families
Kwon Young-se, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, compared the current rise in party approval ratings to the emergency martial law situation last December, saying, "It is not that we did well, but rather because people were disappointed with the opposition's behavior, especially the citizens who believe that the country cannot be entrusted to Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party of Korea." Chairman Kwon added, "We are aware of the main issues."
At a New Year's press conference held at the National Assembly on the 6th, Chairman Kwon shared his thoughts since the launch of the Emergency Response Committee. He said, "The reason the party did not receive favorable evaluations before the martial law was due to discord between the party and the government, and internal conflicts within the party that appeared very unstable. Supporters of the party were disappointed to see constant conflicts with the government or disputes over similar issues, but those problems have been resolved."

Regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment trial, he raised concerns about the fairness of the Constitutional Court. He said, "Many citizens are worried about the ideological bias of the constitutional justices," and added, "We will do our best as the ruling party to ensure that the decision is not based on factionalism or ideology, but is a correct decision that all citizens can accept."
He candidly acknowledged criticisms about the lack of party reform. He explained, "I evaluate that reform has not been fully implemented. The issues were complex and numerous, and since opinions within the party differed, fostering harmony during the adjustment process was an urgent priority."
Regarding the direction of reform, he stated it would differ from the Democratic Party's rightward shift. Chairman Kwon said, "As a conservative party, it is meaningless to simply move toward the left or emphasize the center," adding, "There must be sincerity." Instead, he emphasized, "We need to establish a direction that can gain maximum consensus within the party."
Earlier, Chairman Kwon also met with the bereaved families of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster. He stated, "We will do what we can."
