"Declaring War on Bacterial Leaf Blight and Anthracnose"... Yeongyang-gun Promotes Kaltanmak Movement Implementation

The Yeongyang-gun Agricultural Technology Center in Gyeongbuk is promoting the practice of the Kaltanmak campaign to prevent and mitigate damage caused by tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), known as "Kalla disease," and anthracnose, which cause losses to chili pepper farms every year.

Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), called Kalla disease, is transmitted to chili peppers by thrips, causing tissue necrosis and irregular round spots on the chili pepper fruits where pigmentation does not develop properly.

Anthracnose causes dark green spots on the fruit, gradually forming large concentric circular or oval lesions. The spores of the pathogen spread from infected chili peppers by wind and rain, rapidly increasing damage during the hot and humid rainy season.

Both Kalla disease and anthracnose cause symptoms on the fruit that significantly reduce chili pepper yields, making systematic prevention through disease control at each growth stage of the chili pepper crucial.

In response, the Yeongyang-gun Agricultural Technology Center provides education on prevention and control techniques for Kalla disease and anthracnose, visits fields to support problem-solving, and offers assistance through the Agricultural Technology Center’s Vegetable Horticulture Team.

County Governor Oh Do-chang stated, “We urge chili pepper farmers to actively utilize the on-site technical guidance from the Agricultural Technology Center to prevent Kalla disease and anthracnose and minimize damage.”
