Two Israeli soldiers were killed in a shooting attack at a checkpoint in the West Bank, a Palestinian territory along the Jordan River.
According to local Israeli media such as The Times of Israel and Ynet on the 4th (local time), around 6 a.m. that day, an armed assailant approached a checkpoint near Tayaseer in the northern West Bank and attacked a guard post where Israeli soldiers were stationed. A gunfight broke out between them.
During the incident, two Israeli soldiers were killed and eight were injured. The shooter fled the scene but was killed by a grenade thrown by the Israeli military.
The shooter reportedly approached the checkpoint on foot overnight but was not stopped during the process.
Also, since it was still dark before dawn at the time of the incident, and the shooter was wearing a khaki vest similar to military uniform, it appears the Israeli military experienced confusion in their response.
Since entering a ceasefire with the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli military has launched a new military operation called "Iron Wall" in the West Bank under the pretext of preventing terrorism.
The previous day, the Israeli military announced that it had killed three terrorists, arrested 50 people, and dismantled 45 explosives in Tulkarm in the West Bank.
