Gwangju's Transportation Policies Focused on Gwangcheon Area
Proposals Include Express Bus on Ring Road and More

Park Pilsun, Gwangju City Council Member: "Gwangsan and Nam-gu Neglected in Transportation Welfare" Park Pilsun, member of Gwangju City Council, is delivering a "5-minute speech" at the 1st plenary session of the 330th extraordinary meeting held on the 4th. Provided by Gwangju City Council

As transportation policies that will determine the future direction of Gwangju's transportation are being announced, there has been criticism that transportation measures for Nam-gu and Gwangsan-gu are insufficient.

Park Pilsun, a member of the Gwangju City Council (Democratic Party, Gwangsan-gu 3), stated during a "five-minute speech" at the 330th first plenary session of the city council held on the 4th, "Gwangju's transportation policies are concentrated in the Gwangcheon area," and added, "While it is true that solving transportation issues in the Gwangcheon area is urgent, I question whether these plans are truly promoting balanced development for all of Gwangju."

Last month, the city held a public hearing on the urban railway network construction plan centered on the Gwangcheon-Sangmu Line.

Regarding this, Park criticized, "A public hearing that should have discussed the future urban railway plans for all of Gwangju was reduced to a business briefing for the Gwangcheon-Sangmu Line," and added, "Although various routes such as the Bongseon-Cheomdan Line, Hyocheon Line, and Suwan-Pyeongdong Line were reviewed, the focus was only on explaining a specific route."

She continued, "Residents of the Hyocheon district are still experiencing significant inconvenience with public transportation, as the promised Phase 3 of Line 2 is on the verge of being scrapped," and argued, "In the southwestern part of Gwangsan-gu, even village buses have stopped running, and it still takes more than an hour to reach Songjeong Station by public transportation."

Park also pointed out, "Plans established while ignoring residents of certain areas make it difficult to promote balanced development," and emphasized, "A fair and long-term plan that leaves no region behind is needed."

She further stated, "An express bus route utilizing the ring road should be newly established," and explained, "If Hyocheon, Seonun, the industrial complex, Suwan, Cheomdan, and Buk-gu are quickly connected by express bus, it could relieve the congestion in the southwestern area."

Meanwhile, Park on this day urged the following: ▲ establishment of a new express bus route utilizing the ring road ▲ development of innovative measures for transportation-disadvantaged areas ▲ presentation of a transportation vision connecting the metropolitan area.
