Park Ji-won, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Haenam, Wando, and Jindo in South Jeolla Province), announced on the 3rd that the construction of the new Wando Yaksan~Geumil connecting bridge has been included as a final review item in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '6th National Highway and Local Road Construction Plan.'
The new Wando Yaksan~Geumil connecting bridge project on National Road No. 27, a long-awaited project for Wando County, is the first phase of the Wando-Goheung Coastal Tourism Road, which will connect the islands of Wando and Goheung with five bridges. The total length of the section is 7.8 km, with a project budget of 409.9 billion KRW. The entire Wando~Goheung Coastal Tourism Road project will span 27.4 km with a total budget of 900.8 billion KRW.
The 6th National Highway and Local Road Construction Plan serves as the basic plan for national road construction projects to be carried out from 2026 to 2030. Upon completion of the connecting bridge, it is expected to greatly improve not only the mobility rights of island residents but also boost tourism and regional economic development. In particular, the Yaksan~Geumil connecting bridge, which will link Geumil-eup and Yaksan-myeon in Wando County, is anticipated to significantly enhance transportation convenience for local residents as a result of its inclusion in this plan.
The Haenam, Wando, and Jindo route plans include: ▲ Construction of a new two-lane road between Wando Yaksan and Geumil (409.9 billion KRW) ▲ Expansion of Haenam Bukil~Gangjin Doam to four lanes (120.9 billion KRW) ▲ Improvement of Jindo Imhoe Gulpo~Jungman to two lanes (20.2 billion KRW) ▲ Improvement of Wando Sinji Songgok~Daegok to two lanes (38.7 billion KRW) ▲ Improvement of Wando Sinji Songgok two-lane road (21.9 billion KRW), among others.
Park stated, "Five road projects for Haenam, Wando, and Jindo, including the new national road with the Yaksan~Geumil connecting bridge, a long-cherished wish of Wando residents, have been included as final review items in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '6th National Highway and Local Road Construction Plan.' For projects over 50 billion KRW, the routes have passed the Ministry of Economy and Finance's preliminary feasibility study, while those under 50 billion KRW are routes finalized through joint consultation between the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. These will be confirmed as part of the '6th National Highway and Local Road Construction Plan' and are expected to be officially announced either at the end of this year or in the first half of next year."
Park further emphasized, "I will do my utmost to ensure that all five route plans for Haenam, Wando, and Jindo are finalized, and I will continue to work to ensure that routes requested by the local community are consistently reflected in the national and local road construction plans."
