Shin Sang-jin, mayor of Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province, stated on the 2nd via social networking service (SNS), "Looking at the words and actions of some once-prominent commanders and generals who have recently drawn attention in the political landscape, it is truly pathetic."

Mayor Shin added, "It is extremely disappointing and worrisome to see those entrusted with the highest responsibility for the safety and lives of 50 million people in the free democratic Republic of Korea amid the North-South standoff acting in such a cowardly, spineless, and dishonest manner before the people."

He continued, "It is disgusting to the extent that one might think they are people who have lived by groveling and flattering those in power to get promoted in the military," emphasizing, "There needs to be a reassessment of the character, attitude, and capabilities of the highest-ranking generals commanding various branches of the armed forces."

Furthermore, Mayor Shin stated, "The promotion process also seems to require strict scrutiny," and added, "Although the military personnel system is said to have changed from the past so that connections and backing no longer work, it needs to be more firmly established to prevent careerist political soldiers from gaining a foothold."
