Recently, Sokcho City announced a large-scale development project, sparking growing interest in the real estate market. On January 22, Sokcho City unveiled a major project called ‘A New Change for Nature and the Future: Yeongnangho Tourist Complex Development,’ a large-scale private investment proposal.
The Yeongnangho Tourist Complex development project, proposed by the private company Shinsegae Central City Co., Ltd., aims to preserve the natural green spaces of Yeongnangho to the greatest extent possible, return them to the citizens, and simultaneously revitalize the local economy. The project is scheduled to run for seven years from 2025 to 2031, covering approximately 1,318,436㎡ of land with a total investment of 1.0376 trillion KRW. It is expected to generate an economic ripple effect of about 6.2 trillion KRW and create over 2,000 jobs annually.
The Yeongnangho area plans to separate pedestrian and vehicle pathways to provide a safe and pleasant walking trail. To enhance nighttime usability, pollution-reducing lighting facilities and street lamps will also be installed. Modern cultural facilities for citizens will include a sports center, a large swimming pool, a museum, a sports & sculpture park, and an outdoor botanical garden (flower garden), all to be developed around Yeongnang-dong and Jangsa-dong.
An industry insider stated, “The Yeongnangho Tourist Complex development project, proposed by a major conglomerate, is expected to significantly contribute to the revitalization of Sokcho’s local economy,” adding, “It is also anticipated to have a positive impact on the nearby real estate market alongside the establishment of a pleasant living infrastructure.”
Meanwhile, POSCO E&C is drawing attention by offering the last remaining units of ‘The Sharp Sokcho Prime View’ in Geumho-dong, Sokcho City, Gangwon Province, on a first-come, first-served basis. The complex consists of 8 buildings ranging from 4 basement floors to 33 floors above ground, with a total of 1,024 units. The units range in size from 84 to 110㎡, 136 to 180㎡ (duplex), and 142 to 147㎡ (penthouse).
The first-come, first-served contracts attract buyers as they allow direct selection of preferred buildings and unit numbers, and inquiries about the remaining units are increasing.
This complex is part of a ‘private park special case’ project, located within the Yeongnang Neighborhood Park site, offering a pleasant residential environment. Residents can enjoy walking and exercising in various themed gardens such as Spring Hills, Citizens’ Yard, Seorak Hills, and Dreaming Hill, connected directly to the park via walking trails. Convenient access is also available to Yeongnangho, Yeongnangho Lake Park, and Yeongnangho Country Club.
The educational environment for children is excellent. Kyodong Elementary School and Seorak Middle School are within walking distance, and Sokcho Middle School, Haerang Middle School, Sokcho Girls’ High School, and the Kyodong academy district are nearby. Additionally, Sokcho Rodeo, Lighthouse Beach, Sokcho Tourism and Fisheries Market, and E-Mart are close by, providing abundant living infrastructure.
The Sharp Sokcho Prime View also benefits from transportation development. The Dongseo High-Speed Railway (KTX) and Donghae Northern Line are scheduled to open in 2027, improving connectivity to other regions. From Sokcho Station, it will take about 99 minutes by KTX to reach Yongsan in Seoul. The Sokcho Intercity Bus Terminal, National Route 7, and Donghae-daero are also conveniently accessible.
Sokcho’s largest community facilities will be established within the complex, consisting of a Sports Zone for leisure and health, an Edu-Family Zone for children’s education and families, and a Public Zone for childcare and relaxation.
The Sports Zone will include fitness facilities, a GX room, Pilates, a golf practice range (8-screen stations), two screen golf locations, saunas (hot and cold baths), a table tennis room, private GX, a care exercise room, and a healthcare lobby. The Edu-Family Zone will feature an edu lounge, private study rooms, a multi-studio, a media seminar room, a book caf?, a kids’ room, and a duplex-style The Sharp caf?. Additionally, a daycare center, a community care center, a senior citizens’ center, a guest house, and shared dining facilities will be available.
A sales representative explained, “The Sharp Sokcho Prime View is a branded large-scale apartment complex developed through the private park special case project, making it a new landmark in Sokcho. With the large-scale development boost of the Yeongnangho Tourist Complex, inquiries about contracts are increasing, and a 100% sell-out is expected soon.”
Meanwhile, the model house for ‘The Sharp Sokcho Prime View’ is located in the Joyang-dong area of Sokcho City.
