Up to 20% of Out-of-Pocket Expenses Covered
for Purchases of Insulin Pumps and Related Devices
Seosan City in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 3rd that it will implement a new policy this year to support medical expenses for patients with Type 1 diabetes.
This program provides partial financial support for the purchase of management devices such as insulin pumps for patients with Type 1 diabetes who are unable to produce insulin in their bodies and therefore require insulin injections.
Eligible recipients are citizens aged 19 or older who have been registered residents and have actually lived in the city for at least six months, and whose household income is below 100% of the median income standard.
Additionally, the patient must have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and purchased the relevant management device after January 1, 2025, according to a doctor's prescription.
The supported devices include three types: insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring sensors, and continuous glucose monitors, with up to 20% of the purchase price per person covered.
With the existing 70% support from the National Health Insurance Service and 20% support from Seosan City, eligible recipients only need to pay 10% of the total purchase amount for Type 1 diabetes management devices.
For required documents, please refer to the Seosan City Public Health Center website, and applications can be submitted in person at the Health Promotion Division of the Seosan City Public Health Center.
Mayor Lee Wan-seop said, "We have implemented this project to help alleviate the financial burden and promote a healthy life for patients suffering from this condition and their families," adding, "We will continue to develop and prepare various policies to promote the health of our citizens."
