Administrator Kwon Jae-han Visits Chuncheon, Gangwon-do
to Inspect Technology Commercialization Site on the 3rd
The Rural Development Administration (RDA) has transferred an average of 1,300 agricultural technology cases annually. According to the RDA on the 3rd, the total number of technology transfers developed by the RDA over the past five years (2020?2024) reached 6,481 cases, averaging 1,300 cases per year.
By industry, manufacturing accounted for the largest share at 53.9%, followed by wholesale and retail at 15.4%, processing at 10.2%, services at 6.3%, livestock farming at 5.8%, and cultivation at 4.2%.
An RDA official stated, "The RDA actively supports startup companies in the agricultural sector that have received transferred research technologies to overcome initial startup barriers and grow. In particular, a company that received the technology for 'Seedling and cultivation facilities using light-emitting diode (LED) lighting and methods for seedling and cultivation' developed by the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences has attracted attention by developing a modular container vertical farm system capable of producing uniform, customized high-quality seedlings."
Accordingly, on the same day, RDA Administrator Kwon Jae-han visited NextGreen in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do, which develops and distributes domestic modular vertical farms, to discuss the development direction of domestic plant factories with related personnel.
This company's modular container vertical farm system consists of conveyor belt-type cultivation beds, LEDs optimized for seedling growth, air conditioning facilities capable of controlling temperature and humidity, and a carbon dioxide generation device. NextGreen has enhanced its proprietary technology through technology transfer from the RDA and supplies high-quality wasabi seedlings. Additionally, by combining a cloud-based precision control system with an image acquisition system for growth monitoring, they have collected big data on wasabi and established a business model that promotes coexistence and cooperation with farmers.
Administrator Kwon said, "Smart farm technology, especially smart farm systems responding to climate change, is transforming the paradigm of agriculture. Recognizing that technological innovation is the competitiveness of agriculture, we will continue active support and cooperation to ensure that research and technology development for sustainable agriculture are vigorously pursued."
