Regarding the ‘December 3 Emergency Martial Law Incident,’ it was announced that the police have agreed with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) to investigate former Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min.
The Special Investigation Unit of the National Police Agency’s National Investigation Headquarters stated to reporters on the 3rd, “Minister Lee will be investigated by the police.”
Former Minister Lee is suspected of ordering power and water cuts to major media outlets following the declaration of martial law.
Previously, Fire Commissioner Heo Seok-gon responded on the 13th of last month during a National Assembly Public Administration and Security Committee inquiry, to a question from Yoon Gun-young, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, asking, “Did former Minister Lee order power and water cuts to progressive media outlets such as Hankyoreh, Kyunghyang, and MBC, and did the Fire Commissioner consult with the deputy commissioner upon receiving the order?” He replied, “I was instructed to cooperate if there was a request from the National Police Agency regarding certain specific media outlets.”
A Special Investigation Unit official stated regarding the investigation of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and other cabinet members, “We are continuously coordinating schedules with the necessary individuals.”
