Jeju Special Self-Governing Province has secured 5.8 billion KRW in national funding for 16 renovation and repair projects aimed at improving outdated public sports facilities in 2025.

This initiative is part of efforts to enhance user convenience at sports facilities and to prepare for the 2026 National Sports Festival. Jeju Province plans to combine national and local government funds to implement facility improvement projects totaling 20 billion KRW throughout the year (including multi-year projects) by each relevant agency.

The project is being carried out as part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s national funding support program for the renovation and repair of public sports facilities. Specifically, Jeju Province will undertake three projects worth 950 million KRW, Jeju City will handle six projects worth 2.6 billion KRW, and Seogwipo City will manage seven projects totaling 17.2 billion KRW.

The province plans to replace outdated facilities in the Jeju Sports Hall that have exceeded their service life (including hot water and oil tanks, and fire pumps), and to sequentially repair leaks in the ceilings and swimming pools at the Jeju Complex Sports Center and Jeju Disabled Sports Center.

Jeju City will repair and reinforce the interior floor and main pool of the Jeju Sports Complex indoor swimming pool, which was completed over 40 years ago, as well as address exterior cracks at the Halla Gymnasium. The city will also replace the elevator for the disabled at the Jeju National Sports Center and install accessibility features such as wheelchair ramps and braille blocks at the Jocheon Gymnasium, Hallim Lawn Bowls Stadium, and the main stadium of Aewol Sports Park.

Seogwipo City will replace the athletics track, natural grass, and spectator seating at Gangchanghak Main Stadium and its auxiliary stadium (a two-year, multi-year project). In addition, elevators and dedicated spectator seating for the disabled and elderly will be installed at Pyoseon, Daejeong, Andeok, and Namwon Community Sports Centers to improve mobility and accessibility.

Kim Yangbo, Director of the Culture, Sports and Education Bureau of Jeju Province, stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure the safety of users by renovating and repairing outdated public sports facilities in preparation for the 2026 National Sports Festival."
