Xiaomi Offers Annual Salary of 2 Billion KRW
Chinese AI startup Deep Seek has caused a sensation by unveiling a new AI model, and a woman identified as a key developer is attracting attention.
Recently, Chinese media Xiandai Kuaibao reported on Luo Fuli (羅福莉, 30), known as a core engineer in Deep Seek's development. According to the report, Luo Fuli hails from Yibin City, Sichuan Province, born to an electrician father and a teacher mother. After enrolling in the Department of Electronics at Beijing Normal University in 2015, she transferred to the Department of Computer Science following a professor's advice that "the computer science department has a brighter future and broader opportunities for master's advancement" than electronics.

In her third year, Luo Fuli interned at the AI Research Institute of Peking University, balancing work and study by spending four days on experiments and two days attending classes. After graduation, she pursued a master's degree at Peking University's Computational Linguistics Research Institute, specializing in Natural Language Processing (NLP). In 2019, she presented a total of eight papers at ACL (Association for Computational Linguistics), a globally recognized NLP academic conference.
After earning her master's degree, she immediately joined DAMO Academy, Alibaba's AI research and development (R&D) division, participating in the development of the multilingual pre-trained AI model VECO. She is also known to have led some projects during the development of Alibaba's first large language model (LLM), AliceMind. In 2022, she moved to Huanfang Lianghua, known as the predecessor of Deep Seek, and joined Deep Seek the following year, becoming a key figure in the development of the V2 model.
Earlier, the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 31st of last month, citing Chinese media, that Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi, offered Luo Fuli an annual salary of 10 million yuan (approximately 2 billion KRW). Xiaomi established its AI research institute in 2016 and has recruited over 3,000 talents so far. According to reports, Luo Fuli has not yet accepted this offer.
