On the 3rd, SPC Group announced that it has completed the purchase of approximately 150,000㎡ (45,000 pyeong) of land for the bakery factory in the industrial complex ‘Highpoint Business Park’ in Burleson City, Johnson County, Texas, and has received approval for its investment plan and subsidies from the local government. The final incentive signing ceremony took place on the 27th of last month at the Johnson County District Court, attended by SPC Group President Heo Jin-soo and Diana Miller, Director of Johnson County Economic Development, among others.
Earlier, SPC Group Chairman Heo Young-in and President Heo visited the United States on the 20th of last month to attend President Trump’s inauguration ceremony in Washington DC, where they met with local political and government officials to discuss economic cooperation and investment plans. At that time, Chairman Heo held a meeting with Paris Baguette America headquarters staff to conduct final checks related to the bakery factory investment. An SPC Group official stated, “The establishment of the Paris Baguette bakery factory in the U.S. stems from Chairman Heo Young-in’s proactive global business expansion policy,” adding, “With the launch of the second Trump administration, the project accelerated considering the rapidly changing global market environment, tariff systems, and U.S. industrial policies.”
Texas offers excellent logistical accessibility geographically, covering the entire United States as well as Canada and Central America. In particular, Burleson City belongs to the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, the largest urban area in Texas, providing a favorable employment environment.
SPC Group plans to invest $160 million to build the bakery factory here. Construction is scheduled to begin in earnest this summer, aiming for completion in the second half of 2027. Local governments including Johnson County and Burleson City have agreed to provide Paris Baguette with $10 million in subsidies. Additionally, Texas offers tax benefits for equipment purchases necessary for factory construction. Paris Baguette will receive support totaling up to $14 million.
The SPC Texas factory will serve as a production facility to supply bakery products not only to the U.S. and Canada, where Paris Baguette stores are expanding, but also to the Latin American region planned for future entry. Initially, it will be constructed with a total floor area of about 17,000㎡ (5,200 pyeong). Subsequently, aligned with Paris Baguette’s business expansion, it will be expanded to a total of 28,000㎡ (8,400 pyeong) by 2030, enabling an annual supply of 500 million products. Approximately 450 jobs are expected to be created at this factory, ranking it among the top five employers in Burleson City.
The establishment of this factory is expected to significantly boost Paris Baguette’s business in the Americas. Currently, Paris Baguette operates over 210 stores in North America and has set a goal to open 1,000 stores by 2030. This year, it plans to expand its presence from 29 states to 35 states and open about 100 new stores.
SPC Group also expects the Texas factory to maximize production and logistics efficiency and improve product quality. The factory will include training facilities for local franchisees. Furthermore, there are plans to utilize it as a base for SPC Samlip, an affiliate company, to respond to the North American market and implement localization strategies, which is expected to generate synergy effects across SPC Group’s global business. SPC Samlip is strengthening exports of K-food such as steamed buns, cream buns, and yakgwa in North America.
SPC Group President Heo Jin-soo said, “Establishing a local factory in the U.S. will be an important turning point for expanding into North and Central America, including the world’s largest market, the United States,” adding, “We will accelerate our global business localization strategy and strive to widely promote the excellence of K-food in the global market.”
Meanwhile, SPC Group operates a bakery factory (20,800㎡) in Tianjin, China, and is nearing completion of a halal-certified bakery factory (16,500㎡) in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
