'Yoon Myeonhoe' Kwon Seongdong: "Comforting a Friend in Difficult Times"... Kim Jaeseop: "Why Like This?"

Kwon Young-se and Kwon Seong-dong of People Power Party to Meet Yoon on the 3rd
Kim Jae-seop: "It Will Be Seen as the Official Stance, I Oppose It"

Kim Jae-seop, a member of the People Power Party (Deputy Head of Organization), expressed strong opposition to the party leadership's 'two-top' figures, Emergency Response Committee Chairman Kwon Young-se and Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong, announcing their intention to visit President Yoon Seok-yeol, who has been indicted and detained on charges of insurrection. He stated, "It will appear as the official stance of the People Power Party and looks irresponsible," adding, "I firmly oppose it." They are scheduled to visit President Yoon for the first time since his incarceration on the 3rd.

On the 2nd, Kim shared an article on social media about Floor Leader Kwon's statement regarding the visit and criticized, "I don't understand the excuse that the party leader and floor leader meeting the president is on a 'personal level,'" and questioned, "Why are they only now fulfilling human decency in this way? During the process where the president declared an unexpected martial law and was impeached because of it, what were the pro-Yoon factions doing?"

He continued, "It is cowardly to only meet the president to fulfill human decency after he has been detained, having only said pleasing words as aides during his term," and argued, "The Emergency Response Committee should not be held back by the past but should engage in innovative competition aimed at the future."

Earlier, Floor Leader Kwon stated at a press briefing, "We will visit Seoul Detention Center at 11 a.m. on the 3rd," adding, "This is not to discuss political issues or matters related to investigations or trials. We are going as individuals, not as party leadership." He explained, "(Emergency Response Committee Chairman) Kwon said, 'Since I have a deep personal connection from university days and later as a prosecutor, it would be good to go together,' so it happened coincidentally, not as a leadership visit." He added, "It is a natural human duty to visit and encourage a friend in a difficult situation."

It was also reported that Representative Na Kyung-won joined the visit at the suggestion of President Yoon's side. President Yoon, who had the ban on visits by the general public lifted on the 24th of last month, met once with Presidential Chief of Staff Jeong Jin-seok and other presidential aides on the 31st, shortly after the Lunar New Year holiday.
