[PollPoll News] Gallup Poll Shows Rising Support for Yoon Impeachment

Democratic Party Support Rises by 4 Percentage Points
Lee Jaemyung Leads as Next Leader with 31%

Support for the Democratic Party of Korea has increased. Regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is currently undergoing impeachment proceedings at the Constitutional Court, the proportion of respondents in favor of impeachment has risen.


According to a Gallup Korea poll conducted from the 21st to the 23rd (a nationwide wireless phone survey of 1,000 people aged 18 and over, with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and a response rate of 16.4%), support for the Democratic Party rose by 4 percentage points from the previous week to 40%, while the People Power Party fell by 1 percentage point to 38%. The gap between the two parties is within the margin of error.

Gallup explained, "After the passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon, the Democratic Party's support reached its highest level since the current administration began, widening the gap with the People Power Party. However, this month, the two major parties are showing a heated competition similar to just before last year's general election."


In an open-ended survey regarding the next leader, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, ranked first with 31%. Kim Moon-soo, Minister of Employment and Labor, mentioned as a ruling party candidate, received 11%, and Han Dong-hoon, former leader of the People Power Party, received 5%. Following them were Hong Joon-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, with 4%, and Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul, with 3%.


Regarding the next presidential election, 50% of respondents said an opposition candidate should win, while 40% said the current ruling party candidate should win.


Regarding President Yoon's impeachment, 59% were in favor, while 36% opposed. Compared to last week, support for impeachment increased by 2 percentage points, while opposition remained unchanged.
