Among the seven leading agro-bio industry zones in the province (Gochang, Namwon, Jangsu, Imsil, Iksan, Jinan, Sunchang), Gochang is the first to attract private enterprise participation, increasing the likelihood of the project's success.
Through this agreement, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and the county will support the discovery of additional special cases desired by farmers and companies within the agro-bio industrial zone, foster a hub complex for kimchi ingredient supply, and provide support for production infrastructure, agricultural machinery automation, and the creation of a business-friendly environment.
Daesang Co., Ltd. will support the organization of farms for kimchi ingredient production, standardization of quality, and advancement of the kimchi industry by transferring technology for the entire process of kimchi production, harvesting, and storage, as well as promoting distribution.
In addition, since its establishment in 1956 with purely domestic capital and technology, Daesang has become one of the world's top three fermentation specialists and Korea's leading comprehensive food company, joining the 4-trillion-won club in the food industry in 2023, and has continued to expand its business areas to kimchi, fermented sauces, and related foods.
Lee Jeongseong, Executive Director of Daesang, said, "It is meaningful to be able to participate in the agro-bio industrial zone, which fosters the agro-bio industry, the field in which Jeonbuk has the greatest strength. Through this agreement, we will work together to develop the 'Gochang Four Seasons Kimchi Industrial Zone' as a national hub for the kimchi industry."
Shim Deokseop, Gochang County Governor, said, "By designating the Jeonbuk Special Act Agro-Bio Industrial Zone (Kimchi Specialized Zone), we will foster a kimchi specialized industry using excellent agricultural products produced year-round from Gochang's mountains, fields, and seas. We will transform Gochang agriculture from a primary raw material production industry into a value-added sixth industry."
