Uijeongbu City Takes First Step in Creating Hyeonchungtap Memorial Park

Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 15th that it held the ‘Memorial Tower Memorial Park Creation Working Group Meeting’ on the 13th, with the participation of veterans' organizations and local residents.

This working group meeting was held as a preliminary preparation stage for the Memorial Tower Memorial Park creation project to gather opinions from veterans' organizations and residents of Jail-dong before commissioning the design service and to concretize the direction of the project.

The Memorial Tower Memorial Park aims to create a rest area and convenience facilities on the site of the Memorial Tower parking lot at San 87, Jail-dong (2,967㎡), to honor the noble spirit of the patriotic martyrs and national heroes, and to establish a complex educational and cultural space combining veterans' culture and rest areas.

The project budget is 910 million KRW, selected through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Greenbelt Resident Support Project competition, and will be promoted with 90% national funding and 10% city funding.

On the day of the meeting, 19 participants including veterans' organizations, Jail-dong residents, experts, and public officials shared various opinions to develop the project concept.

In particular, they shared ideas on the spatial composition and design plans that would allow the Memorial Tower Memorial Park to become a regional landmark and had in-depth discussions on ways to embody the value of honoring veterans.

Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “The Memorial Tower Memorial Park will be promoted step-by-step in connection with the Jail-dong Ecological Village Creation Project. First, we will create a space for rest and leisure, and later add memorial and educational spaces to make it another symbolic hub representing Uijeongbu City.”
