Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon will meet with domestic fabless (semiconductor design-specialized) industry companies following his meetings with self-employed and small business owners. This is part of his ongoing field visits to revive the economy since the beginning of the year.
On the afternoon of the 15th, Governor Kim plans to hold a "Gyeonggi-do Fabless Industry Leap Communication and Empathy Talk" at the Seongnam Global Convergence Center located in Pangyo, Seongnam City, to communicate with local businesspeople.
The event aims to explore the growth potential and development plans of the fabless industry, with about 100 attendees including representatives from the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, Next Generation Convergence Technology Institute, Korea Nano Technology Institute, Korea Ceramic Technology Institute, and around 30 fabless companies in the province.
Hosted directly by Governor Kim, the event will be conducted in a free format to listen to the voices of businesspeople and discuss development plans, with 11 communication panelists including National Assembly members Lee Su-jin, Lee Sang-sik, Ahn Cheol-soo, Provincial Assembly member Lee Je-young, Kim Kyung-soo, president of the Korea Fabless Industry Association, and Kim Jeong-hoe, vice president of the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association.
According to Gyeonggi Province, out of 205 domestic fabless companies, more than half?120 companies?are located within the province, with 70 of them in Seongnam.
Governor Kim is promoting the establishment of the "Pangyo Fabless Cluster" as a key task of the 8th local government administration, working to create a fabless ecosystem by linking the existing 1st and 2nd Pangyo areas with the developing 3rd Pangyo, attracting companies and support institutions, building support facilities, and fostering talent.

Additionally, at a recent New Year's press conference, he announced three major emergency management measures to rebuild the Korean economy: ▲super supplementary budget for people's livelihood ▲response to Trump 2.0 ▲revitalizing companies. Notably, as part of the supplementary budget for people's livelihood, there is a plan to invest at least 15 trillion won in future growth industries.
One of the important future growth industries, according to Governor Kim, is the fabless industry.
At the "Semiconductor Cluster Forum" held in Pangyo, Seongnam, last December, Governor Kim stated, "There must be no setbacks in nurturing our future growth industries such as semiconductors, which are our main industry, bio, advanced mobility, artificial intelligence (AI), and big data, as well as taking care of people's livelihood." He presented the "three major visions" to protect and grow the semiconductor industry, including the creation of a semiconductor mega cluster, establishment of an independent semiconductor value chain, and fostering an innovative semiconductor ecosystem.
Gyeonggi Province is promoting the creation of the world's largest semiconductor mega cluster, following ongoing projects in Yongin, Pyeongtaek, Hwaseong, and Anseong, to develop not only fabless but also the semiconductor industry.
Meanwhile, Governor Kim continues his field visits to revive the economy, having held a New Year's press conference at a seolleongtang (ox bone soup) restaurant on the 13th, and on the 14th visiting Siheung City to provide financial counseling to self-employed individuals such as a young couple running a chicken restaurant and the owner of a grilled fish restaurant.
