“Nurturing Small and Medium-Sized CDMOs and Becoming a Supply Base for New Drug Candidates”
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced on the 14th that it will hold the launch ceremony of the dedicated organization, the "Gangwon Bio Specialized Complex Promotion Team," on the 15th to promote the government national project, the "Bio National Advanced Strategic Industry Specialized Complex," which was secured last year. With this, Gangwon Province will embark on building a full-fledged bio-industry ecosystem.

The Promotion Team will hold the launch ceremony on the 15th and discuss the development plan and direction for the bio-specialized complex. The head of the Promotion Team will be Jeong Gwang-yeol, Deputy Governor of Gangwon Province for Economic Affairs, with Hyun Joon-tae, Vice Mayor of Chuncheon City, and Choi Woo-hong, Deputy County Governor of Hongcheon County, serving as committee members and deputy heads.
The committee members include Park Kwang-yong, Director of the Gangwon Province Industry Bureau; Heo Jang-hyun, Director of Gangwon Technopark; Kim Chang-hyuk, Director of Chuncheon Bio Industry Promotion Agency; Jeong Yeon-ho, Director of Scripps Korea Antibody Research Institute; Yesang-gyu, Director of Seoul National University System Immunology Research Center; Jo Gye-chun, Director of Hongcheon Medical Hub Research Institute; and Baek Young-ok, CEO of U-BioLogics.
The Specialized Complex Promotion Team consists of a committee responsible for deliberation and resolution, a secretariat handling practical support, and three subcommittees for planning and execution, comprising about 40 experts. Additionally, an advisory group has been formed to provide various consultations, advice, and policy recommendations.
With the establishment of the Specialized Complex Promotion Team responsible from planning to execution, Gangwon Province plans to materialize the vision of "nurturing small and medium-sized CDMOs and becoming a supply base for new drug candidate substances." CDMO (Contract Development & Manufacturing Organization) refers to companies and institutions that provide specialized services throughout the entire new drug development process.
Jeong Gwang-yeol, head of the Specialized Complex Promotion Team and Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, said, "Gangwon Province has accumulated 30 years of experience and resources in the bio-industry," adding, "We will operate the Promotion Team aiming to build and expand a bio-industry ecosystem reflecting Gangwon's unique characteristics and strengths."
Jeong also added, "We will quantify the goals pursued by the Promotion Team by indicators and systematically carry out the plans according to the schedule, connecting them to tangible results that companies and residents can feel."
