Damyang County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Byeongno) announced on the 13th that it held the regular meeting of the 'Gugok-Sundam Longevity Belt Administrative Council' at Wolpagwan in Juknokwon on the 10th.
The Gugok-Sundam Longevity Belt Administrative Council has been formed since 2003 by Gurye, Gokseong, Sunchang, and Damyang counties, which represent Korea's leading longevity belt. The four counties take turns serving as the chair county each year, jointly selecting senior citizens' health and longevity as their main agenda and promoting elderly welfare projects.
During the meeting, participants discussed the settlement of last year's projects and plans for this year's initiatives.
Last year, with Damyang serving as the chair county, the Gugok-Sundam 100th Birthday Celebration was held, moving participants with unique stories about the "dreams" of senior citizens. Various distinctive events were organized, including a longevity seniors' park golf and gateball tournament, and healing know-how cultural experiences.
In particular, a research study was conducted to operate a health bus providing services such as physical therapy to improve the health of residents in the four counties. Governor Lee Byeongno also visited central government agencies and the National Assembly to secure national funding for the project's success.
This year, Sunchang in Jeonbuk will serve as the chair county and is planning to hold a variety of events, including research surveys on the health status and living environment of centenarians in Gugok-Sundam.
Governor Lee Byeongno stated, "We will do our utmost to contribute to making our region a better place for seniors to live by fully supporting the various elderly welfare cooperation projects planned by the Gugok-Sundam Longevity Belt Administrative Council."
