Reducing Some International Flights by 25-50% per Day
Including Routes to Osaka and Fukuoka, Japan
Total of 1,900 Flights to Be Cut Including Domestic Routes
Jeju Air is set to begin route reductions to thoroughly reorganize safety following the Muan Airport disaster. The airline plans to reduce flights mainly on routes to Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam departing from Incheon and Busan.
According to industry sources on the 3rd, Jeju Air will start cutting routes from mid-month. Domestic routes will be reduced starting next week, and international routes will be cut from the third week of January.
The routes with the largest reductions are those to Japan. For the Osaka route departing from Incheon Airport, flights will be reduced from 32 times per week to 25 times per week between January 13 and 17. Afterward, until March 9, the frequency will be cut from 28 times per week to 21 times per week. The Incheon-Fukuoka route will also be reduced from 4 flights per day to 2 flights per day between January 13 and 26.
Routes to Southeast Asia will also be reduced. Based on departures from Incheon Airport, routes to Bangkok (Thailand), Hong Kong, Da Nang (Vietnam), and Panglao (Philippines) will be cut from 2 flights per day to 1 flight per day. The expected suspension period is from March 3 to 29.
The Incheon-Guam (United States) route will also be reduced from 2 flights per day to 1 flight per day from February 3 to March 3.
For international routes departing from Busan, the Kaohsiung (Taiwan) route is expected to be suspended until March 29. The Busan-Tokyo Narita Airport route will also see a reduction in daily flights from 2 to 1. The expected suspension period is until March 29.
In addition, a total of 1,900 flights, including domestic routes, will be cut. A Jeju Air official explained, "We are discussing detailed route reductions."
