Gyeonggi Province has been selected as the region with the highest number of first-grade areas at the provincial level for 10 consecutive years in the "Regional Safety Index" announced by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
On the 31st, Gyeonggi Province announced that it received first-grade ratings in five out of six evaluation indicators?traffic accidents, fires, daily safety, suicide, and infectious diseases?in the Regional Safety Index assessment released by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
According to this evaluation, Gyeonggi Province has achieved the distinction of receiving the highest number of first-grade areas for 10 consecutive years since the Regional Safety Index was published annually starting in 2015.
However, in the crime category, it was analyzed that there is room for improvement by utilizing private resources, such as expanding the number of child safety houses and volunteer crime prevention officers.
An Chi-kwon, Director of the Safety Planning Division of Gyeonggi Province, evaluated, "The reason Gyeonggi Province received the highest number of first-grade evaluations is the result of all related parties actively participating together to strengthen safety management policies and raise safety awareness."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety annually quantifies the safety levels of local governments using statistics in six areas: traffic accidents, fires, crime, daily safety, suicide, and infectious diseases, then evaluates them by dividing into grades 1 to 5. A first-grade rating means relatively safer within the same administrative district.
