Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, advised Choi Sang-mok, Acting President (Deputy Prime Minister for Economy), to "think only of the country, the people, and the economy."
On the 27th, Kim Dong-yeon posted on his social media, stating, "Article 7, Paragraph 1 of the Constitution clearly states that 'public officials are servants of the entire people and are responsible to the people.' Acting President Choi Sang-mok should focus solely on the country, the people, and the economy. It is not the time to think about the appointing authority or predecessors," he emphasized.
He continued, "The exchange rate once reached 1,480 won, the highest since the financial crisis, the market capitalization has disappeared by 90 trillion won since the internal conflict, and the BSI (Business Survey Index) has fallen at the largest rate in 4 years and 9 months," expressing concern that "the number of self-employed business closures is expected to surpass one million."
In particular, he warned, "If this continues, an economic perfect storm could become a reality," adding, "He will know better than anyone what must be done to reduce the most critical uncertainties in the economy. Blocking the normalization of the Constitutional Court only maximizes uncertainty. Please immediately appoint the constitutional court justices approved by the National Assembly."
Furthermore, he advised, "If there remains sincerity from feeling responsible for failing to prevent the December 3 internal conflict, do not hesitate."
He also urged, "As someone who was responsible for economic management and who overcame the economic crisis at the forefront, I have one more request: discuss with the National Assembly extraordinary emergency economic measures, including a super supplementary budget."
He added, "It is no longer the time to talk about consistency in existing policy directions or to argue over right and wrong. Now is an emergency period where the Korean economy stands on the edge again, following the foreign exchange crisis and financial crisis," and concluded, "Although the internal conflict was not prevented, I hope the second chance to prevent economic catastrophe is not missed."
