Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is promoting a health management support project focused on high-risk groups to prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as stroke and myocardial infarction can be prevented from becoming severe if treated promptly. Accordingly, the district is carrying out various activities for quick diagnosis and response to protect residents' health.

In particular, the focus is on increasing self-management ability by informing early symptoms and response methods.

First, a “Visiting Hypertension and Diabetes Class” is operated targeting vulnerable health groups. Regular preventive education is conducted by visiting senior centers and facilities for the disabled. Blood pressure and blood sugar measurements, along with customized counseling, are provided, receiving great responses.

A campaign to enhance publicity effects is also being conducted. This year, prevention guidelines were provided 10 times at subway stations and university areas with high foot traffic. One-on-one consultations to check health status were held, and suspected patients were connected to medical institutions.

Visiting Health Class

Along with this, attention was drawn by adding various information such as oral care and malaria.

For non-face-to-face health classes, the “Mansahyeongtong” KakaoTalk channel was launched. Subscribers receive videos and card news about hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia for 8 weeks. Workbooks for in-depth learning are also provided, and real-time chat is available.

In addition, blood pressure monitors and blood glucose meters can be rented at the Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center. Free metabolic syndrome screenings are also conducted, and early symptoms and nine prevention rules for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are posted on the district office website and blog.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Stroke and myocardial infarction, which occur suddenly, require immediate examination when prodromal symptoms such as dizziness, pain, and shortness of breath appear,” adding, “Various support projects for preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are being operated, so please seek necessary help at the Gwangjin-gu Public Health Center.”
