Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 26th that it has paid 421 million KRW in direct payments for strategic crops to 166 farms in the area.

Yeoncheon-gun Ensures Rice Supply Stability... 421 Million Won Paid in Direct Payments for Strategic Crops Yeoncheon County Office building. Provided by Yeoncheon County.

This year, direct payments for strategic crops were made for a total of 196 hectares, including 12 hectares of winter crops (wheat, rye, barley, oats, etc.) and 184 hectares of summer crops (legumes such as soybeans and red beans, corn, and summer forage crops). The strategic crop direct payment system is provided to promote food self-sufficiency, increase paddy field utilization, and encourage appropriate rice production.

The payment rates per hectare by crop are as follows: winter crops such as wheat, barley, rye, and oats receive 500,000 KRW; summer crops receive 2 million KRW for legumes, 1 million KRW for corn, and 4.3 million KRW for forage crops.

The county conducted two compliance inspections to ensure the effective implementation of the strategic crop direct payment system and to prevent fraudulent claims. Additionally, to support farmers who suffered damage to summer crops due to frequent heavy rains this year, the county relaxed the cultivation compliance standards for strategic crops to enable the payment of direct subsidies.

A Yeoncheon-gun official stated, “Through the implementation of this strategic crop direct payment system, there have been various achievements such as stabilizing rice supply and increasing farm income. We hope that farmers will participate in appropriate rice production (reducing rice cultivation area) next year as well, which will help their farm management.”
