Total Project Cost of 27 Billion KRW: Creation of Hub Facilities and Regeneration of Residential Environment
Jangseong County in Jeollanam-do has fulfilled a long-held wish of its residents after seven years of efforts.
On the 25th, Jangseong County announced that it was the only area in the Honam region to be selected for the urban regeneration project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in the second half of this year.
Accordingly, the county will invest a total project cost of 27 billion KRW, including national, provincial, and county funds, to carry out the urban regeneration project in the Daechang District of Jangseong-eup. The project will run for four years, from 2025 to 2028.
The project is divided into the establishment of key facilities and the regeneration of residential environments. The county will establish facilities such as the ‘Pyeonbaek Keun Pureum Center’ as key sites within the project area.
The ‘Pyeonbaek Keun Pureum Center’ is a facility that utilizes the forest resources of Chukryeongsan Pyeonbaek Forest as content. This center will include a local restaurant, an ecological education center, a Pyeonbaek experience room, the Keunpureum Pyeonbaek Mall, and an activity garden.
The Yeongcheon-ro area, where the key facility will be located, was once a thriving region for the timber industry centered around the Jeonnam Sawmill.
Through the residential environment regeneration project, part of Yeongcheon-ro will be leveled to create a pleasant and freely walkable street.
Pyeonbaek design elements will be applied to highlight the local identity and offer attractions for visitors.
Crosswalks with heavy pedestrian traffic will be built as ‘raised crosswalks’ that combine speed bumps and pedestrian crossings to ensure safety.
Kim Hanjong, the governor of Jangseong County, said, “It is meaningful to fulfill yet another long-standing wish of our residents, following the establishment of the National Cardio-Cerebrovascular Research Institute and the opening of the Bukjangseong IC. This project will revitalize the area, which could have faced stagnation due to the suspension of the Korea Cement Factory’s operations.”
