On the 24th, Kwon Seong-dong, acting party leader and floor leader, stated at a press briefing at the National Assembly, "Many citizens still perceive the apology as insufficient or believe that no apology has been made," adding, "I will apologize once again immediately after the Emergency Response Committee chairman assumes office."
On the same day, the People Power Party nominated five-term lawmaker Kwon Young-se as the chairman of the Emergency Response Committee. The nominee is scheduled to officially take office after the Standing National Committee meeting on the 26th and the National Committee meeting on the 30th.
Considering the inauguration schedule, the timing of the public apology is expected to be around the 30th.
When asked by reporters about a party-level public apology related to martial law, Acting Leader Kwon responded, "Regarding the declaration of martial law, I have apologized to the public multiple times in my capacity as floor leader, stating that it was clearly a wrongful act and lacked substantive and procedural requirements." He continued, "However, since many citizens still perceive the apology as insufficient or believe no apology has been made, we have an action plan to apologize once immediately after the Emergency Response Committee chairman assumes office." He added, "If an apology is needed until the public’s sentiments are eased, we will continue to apologize."
