"People Judge by Character, Pro-Yoon Colors Should Be Faded"
People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo, regarding the mention of lawmakers Kwon Young-se, Kim Ki-hyun, and Na Kyung-won as emergency response committee chairs to manage the impeachment crisis, said, "I hope other candidates emerge," adding, "We need a lawmaker from the Seoul metropolitan area or Chungcheong region who has a weak pro-Yoon (pro-Yoon Seok-yeol) affiliation."
On the 23rd, Ahn appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and stated, "The public first looks at the person to judge whether the party has changed," and added, "For that to happen, the party should not have the image of being a Yeongnam party, a pro-Yoon party, or an extreme right-wing party, but I question whether any of the currently mentioned candidates are free from such an image."
Ahn also emphasized that a person with political experience is suitable for the emergency response committee chair. He said, "We have elected zero-term representatives twice and a zero-term president, which caused various side effects," and added, "As a reflection on that, there is a consensus that someone who understands the party's internal affairs and politics to some extent and has some familiarity with people will quickly resolve the situation."
In response to the host's question, "Do you intend to take on the role of emergency response committee chair to manage the party?" he drew a clear line, saying, "Not at all." He said, "I am currently in charge of the Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence, and I plan to focus on how to develop artificial intelligence, which is most important for our food industry and youth employment in the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
Regarding the possibility of an early presidential election candidacy, he said, "I am not thinking about it at all right now," and added, "The process would only start after the Constitutional Court impeaches, wouldn't it? Saying that preparations are underway now means being certain that impeachment will happen, and I wonder if such an attitude is appropriate for the ruling party."
Furthermore, Ahn raised his voice, calling President Yoon Seok-yeol's repeated refusal to accept document delivery from the Constitutional Court, amid allegations including being the ringleader of a rebellion, "inappropriate."
He said, "He said he would undergo the investigation confidently, but his actual actions are different, which disappoints many citizens," and added, "I hope he shows a stance of confidently undergoing the investigation even now." He also emphasized regarding the special investigation law on rebellion, "(Acting President Han Duck-soo) should not exercise the veto power."
