Ulsan Meister High School Student Lee Ji-wan, 'Korea Talent Award'

Aspiring Roboticist Aims to Develop Robots Solving Social Issues

Lee Ji-wan, a first-year student at Ulsan Meister High School, received the 'Korea Talent Award' hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Korea Student Aid Foundation.


The award ceremony was held on the 20th at the Government Sejong Complex's main conference banquet hall.


The Korea Talent Award recognizes individuals with outstanding achievements, creative thinking, and a sense of community. A total of 100 recipients were selected nationwide, including 50 high school students and 50 university students and young adults.


Lee Ji-wan, the only awardee from high schools in the Ulsan area, demonstrated exceptional talent in the field of robotics, achieving remarkable results by winning numerous international competitions.


In particular, Lee received the gold prize in the Robot Athletics category at the '2024 International Robot Olympiad Korea Competition' and the grand prize in the Line Tracer category at the '2023 K-Robot Competition with Robit,' among awards in five categories, gaining recognition for his skills.


Lee Ji-wan expressed his aspiration to become a robotics engineer and contribute to solving social problems. He is especially interested in developing robots to prevent safety accidents occurring in manufacturing sites and showed determination to become a talent who contributes to society through robotics.


Lee Ji-wan's passion and potential for growth aligned with the main selection criteria of the Korea Talent Award, leading to his recognition.


This year's recipients include one Prime Minister's Award winner and 99 winners of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Award, with all awardees receiving prize money.


The Ulsan Office of Education stated, "We will do our best to support our students so they can pursue their dreams and passions and move toward the future, helping them grow into talents who will lead Korea."
