KakaoTalk users were found to search for "bogo sipeo" (I miss you) most frequently between 1 and 2 a.m. The phrase "saranghae" (I love you) was most searched between midnight and 1 a.m., suggesting that expressions of love are often thought of before sleep, while feelings of longing are more common during the early morning hours.


On the 19th, Kakao released KakaoTalk search data from January 1 to October 31 this year through the "2024 KakaoTalk Search Quiz." The "KakaoTalk Search" service allows users to search messages exchanged with acquaintances. By entering a search term, users can view related messages, chat rooms, and emoticons.


According to Kakao, "saranghae" was most searched between midnight and 1 a.m. and again at 11 p.m., indicating that users often confirm their feelings of love before going to sleep. "Bogo sipeo" and "mianhae" (I'm sorry) were most searched between 1 and 2 a.m. and 2 and 3 a.m., respectively, showing that users’ emotions tend to deepen during the early morning hours.


During the commuting hours of 7 to 9 a.m., "gas" was the most searched term. Users also frequently searched for everyday life-related words such as loans, electricity, medical checkups, and reservations. After office workers arrived at work, "teamjang" (team leader) was most searched between 9 a.m. and noon, but the search frequency sharply decreased after working hours.


In open chat rooms, various sports hobby groups such as hiking, golf, soccer, tennis, and running were frequently searched. Many open chat rooms related to travel, studying abroad, and immigration were also created, with "Ilbon" (Japan) being the most searched country, followed by the United States and India.


Meanwhile, KakaoTalk was selected as the most used app by Koreans this year. Despite competition from foreign platforms like YouTube, KakaoTalk ranked first in both monthly active users and average monthly usage days. According to WiseApp, Retail, and Goods, as of last month, KakaoTalk had 48.5 million users, ranking first among all apps. YouTube ranked second with 46.73 million users, followed by Naver with 44.26 million and Coupang with 32.2 million.
