The Gyeonggi Education Award is presented by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education to individuals who have made remarkable contributions to achieving the policy goals of Gyeonggi education, advancing educational autonomy, and improving educational conditions. At the award ceremony, Lim Tae-hee, Superintendent of Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, attended to present the plaque and engage in a cordial conversation.
Since taking office, Mayor Park Hyung-deok has led qualitative improvements in local education and strengthened educational democracy through the promotion of region-tailored education policies, activation of educational autonomy, and enhancement of educational cooperation.
In particular, he supported school uniforms for 1,710 students through the nation’s first Dongducheon-style free school uniform program. He also implemented various region-specific education policies such as providing 560 million KRW in hometown and housing support scholarships in 2024 and subsidizing internet CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Test) broadcast tuition fees.
Additionally, by supporting the Dongducheon Dream Club, he provided students with opportunities for overseas training to broaden their horizons and contributed to the activation of educational autonomy by further strengthening the autonomy and responsibility of local governments related to education.
Moreover, Dongducheon City supported a total of 4.2 billion KRW for 18 future education cooperation projects in 2024 through educational cooperation with the Dongducheon-Yangju Office of Education, and applied effective policies in the educational field through education office response support projects.
By being selected as a pilot area for the 2024 Education Development Special Zone, the city secured 6.2 billion KRW in national funding, marking an important milestone in establishing a roadmap for education in Dongducheon City.
Furthermore, through meetings that gathered opinions from students, parents, and school principals, the city realized communication-centered administration reflecting the voices of the educational field, thereby enhancing educational democracy.
Mayor Park Hyung-deok of Dongducheon City stated, “This award is a result created by the combined efforts of Dongducheon City, the Office of Education, schools, students, and our local community. It will serve as an opportunity for Dongducheon City to take a step forward as an education city.” He added, “We will continue to strengthen educational autonomy and cooperation, reflect the voices of the educational field, and tirelessly strive to provide students with a better learning environment.”
