Constitutional Court: Presidential Security Service 'Refused to Accept' Impeachment Documents Against Yoon Seok-yeol
The Constitutional Court, currently conducting the impeachment trial procedure of President Yoon Seok-yeol, announced that it has sent a preparatory order requesting the submission of materials related to martial law to President Yoon. It was reported that the trial-related documents were sent to President Yoon's side, but the Presidential Security Service refused to accept them.
Lee Jin, the Constitutional Court spokesperson, stated at a briefing on the 18th, "Yesterday, we sent (the impeachment trial petition receipt notice, etc.) to President Yoon's side, but the document sent to the Presidential Office was reported as 'recipient absent' at 11:31 a.m. the previous day, and the one sent to the official residence was reported as 'other' at 9:55 a.m. on the same day." He explained that 'other' means the Security Service refused to accept it.
The spokesperson said that they plan to revisit both the Presidential Office and the official residence on the same day to deliver the documents again. Previously, President Yoon also refused to accept a summons sent by mail from the Joint Investigation Headquarters (Gongjobon), which was formed by the police and the High-ranking Officials' Corruption Investigation Office.
The Constitutional Court also announced that it has sent an additional preparatory order requesting the submission of materials related to the December 3 martial law. According to the Constitutional Court, Justices Lee Mi-seon and Jeong Hyeong-sik, who are presiding over President Yoon's impeachment trial, electronically sent the preparatory order to the impeachment prosecutors, including National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jeong Cheong-rae, and to both sides including President Yoon the previous day. The order sent to Chairman Jeong included a request to submit a plan of proof and a list of evidence by the 24th.
The preparatory order sent to President Yoon also included a demand to submit a plan of proof, a list of evidence, Martial Law Proclamation No. 1, and minutes of the State Council meetings related to martial law by the 24th. The preparatory order was also sent to President Yoon by mail.
