Korea Western Power announced that it has been selected as a recognized institution for the sixth consecutive year in the "Regional Social Contribution Recognition System" organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
On the 17th, Korea Western Power was selected as an outstanding regional social contribution company and received a certificate of recognition at the "2024 Chungnam Sharing and Recognition Day" event held at Deoksan Spalace Resort in Chungnam.
With this, Korea Western Power has maintained its top rating this year, being recognized for the excellence of its social contribution activities and organizational culture.
The "Regional Social Contribution Recognition System," organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare, is a system that discovers and recognizes companies that collaborate with local non-profit organizations to revitalize local communities and improve quality of life.
This year, the Ministry of Health and Welfare selected 626 companies and institutions as regional social contribution recognition entities through an evaluation of 25 assessment indicators reflecting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors.
Among them, 66 companies and institutions, including Korea Western Power, have been selected for six consecutive years since the system began in 2019.
Korea Western Power has promoted social contribution activities in three areas: "core business-linked social contribution," "strengthening regional competitiveness," and "improving living infrastructure projects."
Since 2020, the company has carried out the Climate Crisis Safe Village Project, replacing old boilers and installing insulated windows at 149 public facilities in nine cities and counties in Chungnam, reducing over 400 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
Through a resource circulation senior job project that collects and recycles discarded paper packs and plastics, the company has achieved both environmental protection and job creation.
Additionally, by operating mentoring programs for rural elementary students (Weepee School), supporting cultural and arts club activities at rural schools (Gamseong Power Plant), and running programs to develop markets and support investment for social economy enterprises in Chungnam, the company has improved the local educational environment and strengthened corporate competitiveness.
Furthermore, projects such as expanding specialists in cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases at Seosan Medical Center and supporting health checkups for people with disabilities have significantly improved treatment rates for medically vulnerable groups, receiving a positive response from local residents.
A Korea Western Power official said, "It seems our efforts to solve local issues and contribute to residents' welfare through close communication with local stakeholders have been recognized," adding, "We will continue to fulfill our social responsibilities by carrying out social contribution activities that reduce welfare blind spots in cooperation with local non-profit organizations."
