Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) won the Grand Prize at the ‘2024 Visiting Health Care Project Performance Sharing Conference’ hosted by Seoul City.

The Visiting Health Care Project is a program that identifies health issues of local residents and provides appropriate visiting health services to maintain and improve residents' health status. The Performance Sharing Conference is an event hosted by Seoul City to evaluate and share the achievements of the visiting health care projects of 25 autonomous districts over the year and to select outstanding institutions.

Gwangjin-gu was selected as an excellent institution last year in the ‘AI·IoT-based Senior Health Care Project’ category, and this year received the Grand Prize in the ‘Integrated Visiting Health Care Project Program’ category, enjoying the honor of winning for two consecutive years.

According to the district, as of November 2024, the population aged 65 and over is 59,051, accounting for 17.8% of the total population. It is on the verge of entering a super-aged society.

In response, the district operated customized health management programs for healthy aging in two neighborhoods.

First, the Gwangjin-type health questionnaire was actively utilized. Along with basic information such as smoking and alcohol consumption, it comprehensively measured physical, social, and mental aspects including ▲nutrient intake and eating habits ▲physical activity and fingering test, sarcopenia ▲health status and environment ▲depression, enhancing professionalism and accuracy.

The health program duration was extended from 8 weeks to 12 weeks. Focusing on sarcopenia prevention and muscle strengthening exercises, a full-body exercise program was conducted to improve frailty and balance.

As a result of the measurements, among 42 participants, 12 showed improvement in frailty, demonstrating a 29% frailty improvement rate.

Additionally, collaboration with related organizations such as the Dietary Information Center and Dementia Safety Center was carried out, providing not only physical exercise but also dietary education and mental health education, raising the completeness of the project.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “The Visiting Health Care Project is a very important program for promoting the health of local seniors. I am very pleased to receive the award for two consecutive years and would like to express my gratitude to all the staff,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to ensure that seniors in the community can live healthily and happily through customized projects.”
