No Jong-myeon Claims "Emergency Martial Law Related to Kimigayo"
Some Also Suggest Connection to '王'
Regarding the declaration of emergency martial law on December 3, some have claimed a connection to Japan's national anthem, Kimigayo.
On the 16th, on JTBC's 'Genreman Yeouido,' No Jong-myeon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, argued that the numbers appearing in Japan's national anthem Kimigayo are related to the numbers associated with the martial law. No said, "There are two numbers in the Japanese national anthem Kimigayo: one is 1,000 and the other is 8,000," adding, "The operation name for the martial law preparedness drill held last spring was 'Loyalty 8,000,' and the operation was carried out 1,000 days from the presidential election day."
President Yoon Suk-yeol announced in an emergency address early on the 4th that the martial law declared last night would be lifted, while citizens anxiously watched the breaking news about the martial law broadcasted on TV throughout the night.
In fact, 1,000 days before the declaration of emergency martial law on December 3, 2024, was March 9, 2022. On that day, the 20th presidential election was held. No further stated, "The originally scheduled time for the declaration of martial law was 10:00. 10:00, 1,000," and added, "Various suspicions arise, but I hope the facts are quickly confirmed." He continued, "Members of the People Power Party come out and make noise on broadcasts without verification (I will point this out), but I hope explanations come soon," and added, "I hope it was a misunderstanding."
As No claimed, the numbers '1,000' and '8,000' do appear in Japan's Kimigayo. However, it has not been confirmed whether they are actually related to martial law. Meanwhile, Kimigayo was recently broadcast nationwide when KBS aired the opera 'Madama Butterfly' on Liberation Day dawn. When controversy intensified at the time, KBS responded to complaints posted on its viewer board, stating, "There is absolutely no intention to praise or glorify Japanese imperialism."

Prior to this, besides claims related to Kimigayo regarding the martial law date, there were also claims involving the Chinese character '王' (king). One netizen claimed that the date and time of the emergency martial law declaration?December 3 at 10:30?can be expressed in Chinese characters as '十二月(王), 三일十시(王), 三十분(王)' and that combining these forms the character for king (王). This claim gained sympathy from many, especially as it was linked to the fact that President Yoon, during his time as a People Power Party presidential candidate in October 2021, appeared on a presidential primary TV debate with a character resembling '王' written on his palm, which caused controversy. At the time, a camp official explained, "It was something a supporter wrote on his palm that did not come off well."
